One of the things that is essential to being a good Christian is having a relationship with God. But why is our relationship with God so important? Whether you have a strong relationship with God already or you are working on restoring your relationship with God, the connection you share with Him factors heavily into the life you lead. In this article, we’ll look at some of the reasons why it is so important to have a relationship with God.
Why Your Relationship With God Is Vital
Communication - When you have a relationship with God, it involves you communicating with Him regularly. When you communicate with God, you feel His presence in your daily life, and you know there is someone there to help you no matter what you are going through. You are able to thank God and be gracious for the good things in your life, as well as asking for strength and assistance during the trying times. This allows you to feel His love and grow even closer to Him, ensuring that He is a central part of your life.
Understanding and Doing Good - Having a relationship with God also helps us to understand ourselves and the world around us better. When we are connected with God and His desires for us, we know how we are supposed to act and treat others. If we have a good, strong relationship with God, we are more likely to carry out His will and do good in the world. The strength of our relationship with God directly impacts how we live our lives and treat others.
Scripture Calls Us To - Another reason why having a relationship with God is important is that Scripture calls us to:
“And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him.” - Hebrews 11:6
“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care on him; for he cares for you.” - 1 Peter 5:6–7
Both of these passages point out that if you believe in God, then you have a relationship with Him, and you should do all that you can to foster it.
Salvation - Finally, it is important to maintain a relationship with God because doing so is the only way for us to achieve salvation. Loving God, living according to His will, and spreading Jesus’s message will allow you to gain everlasting life. Without a relationship with God, you cannot live your life in a manner worthy of going to Heaven and achieving salvation.
